Ya se conocen los nominados a los Independent Spirit (Premios del Cine Independiente).
Estos premios son para el cine independiente americano los que los Oscar es para los grandes estudios.
Las películas candidatas son elegidas por su originalidad, temáticas provocativas, visiones únicas o economía de medios. Además de ser producciones independientes, deberán tener al menos 70 minutos de duración y haber sido exhibidas, al menos un día, en cines comerciales entre el 1 de enero y el 31 de diciembre de 2005.
La ceremonia de entrega se desarrolla en una gran carpa en la playa de Santa Monica y siempre un día antes de los Oscar.
Los grandes triunfadores del año pasado fueron: Sideways (Entre copas), María llena eres de gracia y Garden State (Algo en común).
